Couples Tower Isle holds a unique place among Jamaica's all-inclusive resorts - it was the island's first all-inclusive hotel when it opened in 1978, and it carries that legacy as both a strength and a challenge. The resort is built around genuine romance and intimacy, with 19 acres of lush grounds, a Zen spa recognized as the Caribbean's best by Travel + Leisure, and the remarkable Sapphire Island just a one-minute boat ride offshore with its own clothing-optional beach, pool, and swim-up bar. The all-inclusive inclusions are legitimately comprehensive - scuba, snorkeling, windsurfing, catamaran cruises, the Dunns River Falls trip, and top-shelf liquors are all in the rate, making this one of the better value propositions among premium Jamaica all-inclusives.

The dining and beverage program earns its reputation. The buffet is praised by nearly every returning guest as the best they've encountered at any all-inclusive, and the a la carte restaurants deliver quality that feels appropriate for the price tier. Staff warmth and attentiveness come up again and again as a reason guests return - the Jamaican hospitality at this property is genuine and not manufactured. The spa is worth planning your schedule around: the treatments, the design, and the overall execution are consistently singled out as exceptional. Watersports are excellent, with the included scuba and snorkeling programming being particularly strong.

The honest challenge with Couples Tower Isle is its age. The infrastructure needs investment that hasn't fully arrived yet - hallway lighting is genuinely inadequate, the beach has shrunk significantly from erosion, and some buildings feel more tired than charming. The pool and beach drink service can be unreliable despite the red flag system. These are real gaps that newer competitors like Sandals Royal Plantation or Couples Sans Souci have addressed with more recent renovations. The resort's loyal repeat visitor base is evidence that the experience's strengths outweigh these issues for many travelers, but first-timers who book based on photos alone may be surprised by the gap between Couples Tower Isle's heritage reputation and its current physical condition.

Pros

  • +Private clothing-optional Sapphire Island accessible by a one-minute boat ride features its own pool, swim-up bar, and beach - a completely unique adults-only experience found at almost no other resort in the Caribbean
  • +All-inclusive rate genuinely covers extras most competitors charge for: scuba diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, glass-bottom boat rides, catamaran cruises, and Dunns River Falls excursion all included with no upcharge
  • +Dining quality is consistently cited as the best buffet experience guests have had at any all-inclusive resort, with a la carte dinners at Eight Rivers and Bayside restaurants described as genuinely excellent
  • +Top-shelf, name-brand liquors at all bars rather than the well liquor standard at most all-inclusives - guests are surprised by the quality, which makes a real difference over a week-long stay
  • +Spa recognized by Travel + Leisure as 'Best in the Caribbean' - the Zen-inspired facility is a genuine destination in itself, not an afterthought appended to the resort
  • +Strong repeat visitor culture with guests returning 10, 20, and reportedly 27 times - a meaningful signal about the quality and consistency of the experience over many years
  • +Watersports equipment rentals and instruction available for windsurfing and other activities, allowing guests to learn new skills during their stay with no additional charges
  • +Jamaica-specific inclusions like the Dunns River Falls trip bundled into the all-inclusive rate represent significant savings compared to booking excursions independently through operators

Cons

  • The resort's infrastructure is aging and some areas are overdue for a full renovation - dark corridors, maintenance needs, and dated decor are consistent themes in recent reviews despite thorough daily cleaning
  • Hallway lighting throughout the accommodation wings is genuinely inadequate - guests specifically call out extremely dim lighting in corridors as both disorienting and a safety concern, especially at night
  • Beach has experienced significant erosion and shrinkage in recent years, with the resort itself acknowledging the sand loss - this is a known issue and a material disappointment for guests expecting a wide sandy beach
  • Pool and beach drink service is inconsistent - guests report raising the red flag signal for service and waiting long periods without being approached, which is frustrating at an all-inclusive price point
  • The property is on Jamaica's north coast in St. Mary Parish rather than in Ocho Rios or Montego Bay, which makes taxi access to local restaurants, shopping, and nightlife less convenient than at more centrally-located competitors
  • Flight options into the closest airport (Sangster International in Montego Bay) require a roughly 90-minute transfer to the resort, adding significant travel time at the end of long flights
  • As an older Jamaican resort, room technology and connectivity lag behind newer properties - expect dated in-room TVs, limited USB charging options, and inconsistent Wi-Fi coverage in some buildings
  • The all-inclusive package's appeal does involve a trade-off with flexibility - guests who prefer exploring local Jamaican restaurants, markets, and experiences will feel limited by the resort's self-contained design

Great place with a lot of history. It is a older hotel but still very nice. The beach is on the smaller side. Scuba team is excellent. Aquatics team ok. Restaurant / bar options are excellent and the staff there are top shelf in the service industry.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon at Couples Tower Isle, and this place made us fall in love with Jamaica—we will definitely be back. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by some of the kindest people we’ve ever met. The service was top-notch,...

Rooms are a bit dated as much of Jamaica is, however my house is also dated. It’s fine :) Common areas/ restaurants/ outdoors are gorgeous and likely where the bulk of the money goes. Amenities are top notch, you will always find something fantastic...
