Summerville Resort in Porto de Galinhas, Brazil is a genuine hidden gem recommendation for adventurous all-inclusive travelers willing to go off the well-worn path. Porto de Galinhas translates to 'port of chickens' and carries a reputation in South America that rivals Cancun for sheer beach beauty - the natural tide pools formed by coral reefs just offshore are world-famous, teeming with fish, and essentially free to explore via jangada (traditional raft) from the beach. The resort sits in the heart of this experience, and that alone separates it from any Caribbean competitor.

Because there is no English-language travelers community discussing this property, travelers need to rely on Brazilian travel forums, TripAdvisor, and European travel blogs for on-the-ground intelligence. What those sources consistently confirm: the beach and natural pools are spectacular, the local seafood is exceptional, and the overall pace is relaxed in a way that the more commercialized Caribbean destinations can't quite replicate. Brazilian all-inclusive hospitality has its own character - less polished in some ways than a Secrets or Hyatt Ziva, but with authentic cultural warmth that purpose-built resort corridors lack.

Summerville is best suited for experienced all-inclusive travelers looking for something genuinely different, South American travelers for whom Brazil is a natural destination, and beach enthusiasts who specifically want the Porto de Galinhas tide pool experience. It is not the right first AI trip for someone seeking the frictionless, English-friendly, Instagram-familiar experience of a Mexican or Dominican all-inclusive. But for the right traveler, Porto de Galinhas is simply one of the world's great beach destinations, and having an all-inclusive there is a meaningful logistical convenience.

Pros

  • +Located on the northeastern coast of Brazil near Porto de Galinhas, one of South America's most celebrated beach destinations with natural tide pools teeming with colorful fish
  • +All-inclusive format in Brazil is genuinely rare, making this a convenient choice for international travelers who want pricing simplicity in a country where dining costs can add up quickly
  • +Porto de Galinhas natural pools are accessible from the resort and are among the most photographed beach experiences in all of Brazil - snorkeling in them is a bucket-list moment
  • +Brazilian northeast weather delivers dry, sunny conditions from September through March, which aligns with northern hemisphere winter escapes perfectly
  • +The Pernambuco state coastline here has warm, calm Atlantic waters that are ideal for swimming and snorkeling year-round
  • +Authentic Brazilian cultural immersion is far more available here than at sanitized Caribbean all-inclusives - local culture, food, and music are genuinely accessible nearby
  • +Strong value proposition for European and South American travelers for whom Brazil is a shorter and cheaper flight than competing Caribbean destinations
  • +The resort is positioned in an area with growing tourism infrastructure but without the over-development and crowding found in Cancun or Punta Cana

Cons

  • Virtually no travelers presence means zero first-hand traveler intelligence - you're booking largely blind from an English-language traveler community perspective
  • Porto de Galinhas is a long international journey from most North American and European origin cities, typically requiring a connection through São Paulo or Recife
  • Brazil's notoriety for petty crime and security concerns makes many international travelers nervous, even though the resort itself is in a relatively tourist-friendly beach area
  • Language barrier is more significant than in Mexico or the Caribbean - Portuguese-only operations at many local restaurants and attractions require more navigation effort
  • All-inclusive food in Brazil may not reach the quality levels of mature all-inclusive markets like Mexico, where competition has driven food standards up sharply
  • Currency and banking logistics in Brazil can be frustrating for international visitors - ATMs, card acceptance, and exchange rates require more advance planning
  • Limited English-language reviews and travel agent familiarity means trip planning and problem resolution is harder than at more established AI destinations
  • Brazilian beach season (September through March) is reversed from North American seasons, which may require rethinking typical vacation timing

We visited for a 4-night getaway back in early June, and let’s just say this place is very impressive and well worth the money. While Summerville is by no means the flashiest or most up to date resort around, the staff and service were nothing short...

Nice for an all inclusive resort. The beach is rocky/coral which is fun to look at but you have to walk a few minutes down the beach to get to nice waves and soft sand (not far and amazing beach). Helpful staff, easy transportation, location not too...

Fantastic “semi-all inclusive” resort. Amazing stay, especially with kids. The hotel has breakfast and all-you-can-eat dinner, but on check-in they give you the option of purchasing all you can eat lunch as well. In my opinion, not necessary, since y...
