Riu Jalisco is the social heart of the three-Riu cluster in Nuevo Vallarta, and that tells you everything you need to know about who will love it and who won't. This is the middle resort in the complex - more affordable than the adults-only Riu Palace Pacifico next door, more energetic than Riu Vallarta on the other side - and it serves as the nightlife hub for all three properties. The Friday pool parties draw guests from across the complex by bus, the on-site disco runs into the early morning, and the entertainment programming is constant. If you want non-stop activity and a lively beach vacation, this is a strong contender at an accessible price.

The beach is legitimately good - wide, clean Pacific sand with gentle surf and warm water. After its full renovation, rooms and common areas look fresh and well-maintained. The six pools give families plenty of room to spread out, and the multiple restaurant options without reservation requirements keep meal times stress-free. The real standout for families is the room configuration: Riu Jalisco has some of the best multi-bed family room setups in Puerto Vallarta, with bunk bed and futon arrangements that comfortably sleep four to six people without forcing anyone to share a bed.

Riu Jalisco is best for budget-conscious families, groups of friends, and younger couples who want maximum activity and social energy at a price well below comparable Mexican properties. It's a natural alternative to Hard Rock or Dreams if budget is a priority - you give up some food quality and exclusivity but gain atmosphere and value. Repeat visitors return three or more times, which speaks to something the resort does right. Just know what you're signing up for: a lively, large property where the vibe is the feature, not the food.

Pros

  • +One of the best beaches in the Puerto Vallarta / Nuevo Vallarta area - wide, clean, swimmable, and well-suited for families
  • +Massive entertainment program with pool parties, nightly shows, and an on-site nightclub that hosts the entire three-Riu complex on Fridays
  • +Recently fully renovated with fresh rooms, new finishes, and updated common areas - the resort looks clean and modern
  • +Large family rooms with multiple sleeping configurations including bunk beds, futons, and roll-away options for groups with teens
  • +Six pools and eight restaurants give enough variety to keep a week interesting without leaving the property
  • +Walk-in dining with no reservation required at any restaurant, which travelers highlight as a major convenience
  • +Access to sister properties Riu Palace Pacifico (adults-only, higher-end) and Riu Vallarta for breakfast, lunch, and afternoon drinks
  • +Accessible and accommodating to guests with mobility issues - multiple travelers with disabilities report excellent staff support

Cons

  • No room service at any Riu property - you have to go to a restaurant or bar for any food and drinks, even late at night
  • No poolside drink service - you go to the swim-up bar yourself, which some travelers used to other resorts find surprising
  • No free umbrellas on the beach - you have to pay extra or reserve a palapa, which catches some guests off guard
  • 820 rooms means this is a large, potentially crowded resort - lounge chairs can be packed and common areas get busy during peak periods
  • Alcohol quality at Riu Jalisco is standard domestic brands - premium liquor requires going to the adjacent Riu Palace Pacifico
  • Food is solidly average for an all-inclusive but doesn't stand out - a buffet-heavy experience without remarkable a la carte options
  • Spring break is a designated policy resort for student groups 21+, which means the March atmosphere can be chaotic
  • Location in Nuevo Vallarta requires a taxi or shuttle to reach Puerto Vallarta's downtown restaurant and nightlife scene

If you want to feel like you are at a swanky restaurant, go to the buffet and sit in Caleb's section. He is gracious and attentive. Just the BEST! And the rooms are the cleanest we have seen anywhere.
