Secrets Moxché Playa del Carmen vs Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres

Hyatt points redeemers and Secrets regulars end up here, usually with Akumal as the third tab. Moxche opened in 2022 north of Playa del Carmen with eight pools, three swimmable cenotes and a hidden nightclub. Playa Blanca opened in 2024 at the top of Costa Mujeres, where Isla Mujeres shelters the beach from sargassum.

What Real Travelers Say

Distilled from real traveler discussions and reviews for each resort.

Secrets Moxché Playa del Carmen

What travelers love

  • +Eight pools, each with its own look and crowd, plus three man-made cenotes built into the property. The cenotes are the thing almost no other all-inclusive on this coast has, and they are the most distinctive feature here after the pool count itself.
  • +Eleven restaurants and eight bars with no reservations required. Bisou is a AAA Four Diamond French room, Suki does pan-Asian with a 12-seat omakase table and teppanyaki, Allora is Italian with a wine cellar, Ember is a smokehouse, Bamboo is Thai, Dos Almas covers Mexican with a taco bar and tequila and mezcal tasting, and Coco Cafe runs 24 hours.
  • +Gypsy, a hidden nightclub that needs a daily password to get in, open 10:30pm to 1am, with Dark Horse also running to 1am. A real late-night scene is rare across the Secrets properties and this is the best of them.
  • +Cocktails are a strength, not a weakness. Current guest reviews single them out as well balanced rather than watered down, with the mango margarita, pina colada, Miami Vice and Bahama Mama named most often.
  • +Modern design with dense planting that breaks the resort into zones, so each pool and building feels like its own place rather than one big deck. It opened in October 2022 and the finishes still look new.

Common complaints

  • −This is a pool-first resort and the beach is not why people book. The white sand, waiter service and non-motorised water sports are all real, and guests do name the beachfront as a highlight, but with eight pools and three cenotes competing for your day the shoreline is the part that gets skipped.
  • −Dinner runs on a buzzer, not a booking. The standard restaurants are first come first served, and if you show up at 7pm or later the wait runs 25 to 60 minutes. Eat at 6pm or after 9pm and the problem disappears.
  • −Check-in is the weak point in the arrival experience and can drag past 40 minutes even with Preferred status.
  • −At peak occupancy the bars get visibly understaffed and drink waits stretch, which is the complaint that shows up most consistently when the resort is full.
  • −Housekeeping is the soft spot in the worst recent reviews, including a late September 2026 stay that reported dirty rooms across several days. It is not the norm here, but it is the failure mode to raise with the front desk immediately rather than at checkout.

Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres

What travelers love

  • +Brand-new resort infrastructure (opened February 2024) — guests benefit from fresh facilities, clean rooms, and modern finishes that older all-inclusives can't match
  • +Costa Mujeres location means Isla Mujeres acts as a natural barrier against sargassum seaweed — the beach stays dramatically cleaner than most Cancun resorts during peak seaweed months
  • +Four large pools including two infinity pools that appear to merge with the Caribbean, plus a jungle-inspired pool surrounded by lush greenery — pool design is one of the strongest in the Hyatt Inclusive Collection
  • +Nine dining options spanning six a la carte restaurants, a buffet, a 24-hour cafe, and a poolside grill — Walk-In Dining policy means no reservation headaches across most outlets
  • +Adults-only environment creates a consistently peaceful atmosphere — the property draws couples and honeymooners who want intimacy without the noise of a family resort

Common complaints

  • −As a new property, early guests (February–June 2024) encountered significant growing pains: partially open restaurants, construction noise, yellow water in some rooms, and unresponsive management during issues
  • −The resort is not walkable to anything — it sits at the northern end of the Costa Mujeres strip and requires a taxi or resort shuttle for any off-property exploration
  • −Pool areas lack adequate shade in mid-afternoon — guests report sunburn risk for those who don't bring their own shade strategies, and the resort has limited misters or cooling stations poolside
  • −Some a la carte restaurants have reported 30–45 minute waits even with the Walk-In policy — high occupancy nights push the no-reservation concept to its limits
  • −The beach, while clean and protected from seaweed, has some areas where the sand gives way to rocky patches near the waterline, limiting comfortable entry in certain sections

The Verdict

The beach is the one settled point. Playa Blanca sits where Isla Mujeres blocks the sargassum and the water runs clear blue; Moxche is farther south, and people who know all three Secrets rank its beach last. The rest tilts Moxche: eight pools against four, eleven restaurants against nine dining spots, the food most often named best of the three, and a password nightclub open until 1am. Neither takes dinner reservations, so both run waits at prime time; eating early or late fixes it at either. Rates trade places with the week's deals, so price both. Beach-first honeymooners who want calm go Playa Blanca; pool-hoppers who want the better kitchens and a dance floor go Moxche.

Choose Secrets Moxché Playa del Carmen if…

You'll spend the day moving between eight pools and three cenotes, want the stronger restaurants and a late night behind Gypsy's password.

Choose Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres if…

The beach is the deciding factor: Isla Mujeres keeps the sargassum off, the water runs blue, and you'd rather a quiet evening than a club.
