Bequia day trip by ferry

Bequia is the closest of the Grenadines, 9 miles south of St. Vincent, and the ferry from Kingstown takes about an hour. Bequia Express runs several crossings a day, fewer on Sundays, and the Bequia Fast Ferry adds more on some days. The Bequia Express boats carry cars and freight as well as passengers.

You land at Port Elizabeth on Admiralty Bay, a wide anchorage full of visiting yachts, and almost everything is walkable from the pier. Princess Margaret Beach is just along the bay from town. The tourism office outside the ferry wharf has maps, and taxis wait under the trees next to the terminal for island tours, which cover a lot because the island is only 7 square miles. Stops include Fort Hamilton for the view over the bay, the Maritime Museum and the workshops that make Bequia's model sailboats. Bequia is also one of the few places where a small, traditional humpback hunt is still allowed, and a little whaling museum tells that story. The Whaleboner bar on the waterfront has an entrance arch made of two whale ribs.

Fit walkers can climb Mount Peggy in about 45 minutes. Banks with ATMs are in Port Elizabeth, and US dollars are widely taken.
