Black River safari boat tour
Day trip · White House, Jamaica

The boats run about four miles up Jamaica's longest navigable river from the town of Black River into the Lower Morass, the biggest swamp in the Caribbean, where American crocodiles bask on the banks and mangroves drop aerial roots up to 12 metres into the dark water. The water is dark because the riverbed is lined with rotting vegetation. Egrets, herons and ospreys are common, and over a hundred bird species have been recorded in the morass.
The captains talk about the river's history and wildlife as they go, and back at the dock there is a crocodile nursery where rescued animals of every size are raised, plus a small interactive museum. Half-day packages add transfers, and longer ones pair the river with YS Falls and lunch.
