Gumbalimba Park
Adventure park · Roatán & the Bay Islands, Honduras

Most people come for the monkeys. White-faced capuchins and scarlet macaws roam loose through these gardens in West Bay, close enough for a selfie, so every group walks with a guide (included in the ticket and required to reach the animals). The guided loop takes about an hour and a half, past an old ceiba tree, cannonball and gumbo-limbo trees, an optional plank bridge over a pond, a small insectarium and a man-made cave of pirate and island history.
Bags stay in a paid locker, because the monkeys open zippers and carry things up trees, and feeding them is not allowed. There are no sloths. After the tour the day is your own on the park's beach and freshwater pool, with lounge chairs but no umbrellas, towels or lifeguard, and kayaks for rent at the desk. A zipline of 13 cables runs above it all (age 4 and up, 250 lb limit, and once you start you finish). For anyone who can't manage the walk, a golf-cart version covers the park with two short walks.
It opens every day of the year, holidays included, and runs a shuttle from the cruise ports. Bring US dollars or lempiras; there is no ATM.
