Adventure park · Saint Martin · runs Flying Dutchman zip line

The Flying Dutchman is billed as the steepest zip line in the world. You sit strapped into a harness chair at the top of Sentry Hill, 1,125 feet up and the highest ground on the Dutch side, and drop 1,050 feet over a 2,800-foot cable at up to 56 mph.

The Sky Explorer chairlift, in two stages, takes about 25 minutes from Rockland Estate up to the summit, where viewing platforms look out over the whole island to Saba, Statia, St Barths and Anguilla. Other options are the Sentry Hill zip line along the ridge and the Schooner Ride, a solo inner-tube run down a banked track from the mid-station. The Emilio Wilson Museum, on the estate, tells the story of Trace Wilson, born into slavery, and her descendant Emilio Wilson.

The park opens 11:00 to 16:00. The Flying Dutchman takes riders between 52 and 80 inches tall and 100 to 275 pounds, and not anyone with heart or back trouble. Allow an hour and a half on a quiet day and three on busy days in high season, because the queue for the big line gets long. Closed-toe shoes are required, and parking is included.
