Sunset sail on Zihuatanejo Bay

Day trip · Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Mexico

An evening on the water rather than a day. The sunset boats leave Zihuatanejo Bay in the late afternoon, sail out along the rocky coast toward the Pacific and turn back as the light goes, getting in with time left for dinner in town. The big catamaran on this run takes about two and a half hours, with an open bar and a light dinner, and the start shifts through the year to follow sunset. Lie on the netting at the bow or sit in the shade by the bar.

Smaller sailboats and yachts in the bay do private sunset trips for a handful of people with food and drinks. From December to March humpback whales are off this coast, so a sunset sail in those months can turn up a spout.
