Impression Isla Mujeres
Impression Isla Mujeres is the most visually distinctive all-inclusive in the Mexican Caribbean: a Mediterranean-style village built into a cliff at Punta Sur on the southern tip of Isla Mujeres, with rooftop infinity pools that seem to hang over the sea, overwater cabanas and a four-story waterslide into the water, near the sanctuary of the Maya goddess Ixchel. With 123 suites, each with a private terrace and a butler, it is adults-only and intimate in a way the mainland mega-resorts cannot match, and getting there is part of the appeal: guests cross from Marina Hacienda del Mar on the resort's own catamaran. On November 2, 2026 the resort joined The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, the collection's first all-inclusive, and dropped the 'by Secrets' from its name; it had opened in May 2023 as an Impression by Secrets property. Hyatt says it stays adults-only and all-inclusive with the Endless Privileges inclusions, existing reservations are honored at their confirmed rates, and World of Hyatt members keep earning and redeeming points.
Traveler Insights
Pros
- +Arrival is part of the show: the resort's own catamaran, with a full bar and butler service on board, crosses from Marina Hacienda del Mar in about 45 minutes instead of the public ferry, and round-trip airport transfers are included
- +Only 123 suites, every one with a private terrace and a butler from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. plus 24-hour concierge, which gives it a private-club feel next to the 500-room resorts across the water in Cancun
- +The design is the headline: a Mediterranean-village resort built into the cliff at Punta Sur on the island's southern tip, with rooftop infinity pools on different levels, overwater torch-lit cabanas, a rooftop terrace with 360-degree views and a four-story waterslide straight into the sea; Luxury Travel Advisor named it the most Instagrammable hotel in the world in 2024 and 2025
- +Seven restaurants and no dinner reservations: Spezia (Italian), UNIK the Kitchen (rooftop tapas by day, a la carte and DJs at night), Sake (pan-Asian with two teppanyaki tables), Wildfire Grill (steakhouse with a chef's table and wine cellar), La Vista (Mexican), Mercado (poolside wood-fired pizza and tacos at lunch) and Cacao, a 24-hour bakery and coffee bar, with 17 wine labels across them
- +Suites start at 748 sq ft, and the 764 sq ft Signature Junior Suites add a Mayan soaking tub for two on an ocean-view or oceanfront terrace, which is exactly what honeymooners book; the Honeymoon Ocean Front suite is 1,410 sq ft and the Presidential Suite has its own swim-out pool
- +Endless Privileges inclusions go beyond the usual: top-shelf spirits across five bars (Isola in the lobby, the Sharks swim-up bar, The Top on the roof, The Temple terrace bar and the Yacht Welcome Lounge, which becomes a piano bar from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.), 24-hour in-suite dining, a minibar restocked twice daily, a welcome bottle of tequila, Le Labo bath amenities, afternoon tea from 4 to 6 p.m., unlimited worldwide calls and a 20-minute wellness treatment per person
- +The private beach sits in a naturally sheltered cove that Hyatt describes as seldom affected by sargassum, a real advantage over the mainland strip, and the resort funds the Saving Our Sharks Foundation from room revenue and runs snorkeling and shark-tagging excursions with it
Cons
- −The catamaran takes planning: book it with the concierge at least 72 hours before arrival, it carries a maximum of 13 passengers, it runs roughly every two hours with the first boat at 7 a.m. from the resort and the last at 8 p.m. from the marina, and weather can cancel it, so an early flight out of Cancun needs the schedule worked out in advance
- −The price is among the highest in the Mexican Caribbean, sitting between the standard Secrets resorts and ultra-luxury names like Rosewood, and some guests on traveler forums feel the gap in quality does not match the gap in price
- −Boats moored off the resort sometimes play loud music that carries to the pool and beach, a disruption the resort cannot control and guests have flagged more than once
- −The beach is small and the resort sits on a rocky cliff at the island's southern tip, so guests who want wide white sand take a taxi or golf cart up to Playa Norte at the north end
- −Seven venues overstate an evening's choice: Mercado is lunch only, The Temple opens for special events, Cacao is a cafe, and the resort itself says not every restaurant and bar is open every night
- −Extras and rules catch some guests out: scuba diving, the salon and spa treatments beyond the included 20 minutes are charged; Sake, Wildfire Grill and The Top require Casual Elegance after dark (long pants and collared shirts for men, no flip-flops); and small dogs under 22 lbs are welcome at $75 a night, which not everyone expects at an adults-only resort
The practical experience is strong. Seven restaurants, from Spezia and Sake to Wildfire Grill and the rooftop tapas and DJ nights at UNIK the Kitchen, take dinner without reservations, though Casual Elegance dress applies after dark at several of them. The Top is the rooftop bar, Sharks is the swim-up bar, and the Yacht Welcome Lounge turns into a piano bar late. In-suite dining is included around the clock and is reliably good, which is rarer than it sounds at all-inclusives. Junior suites are 748 sq ft, the 764 sq ft Signature Junior Suites add a Mayan soaking tub for two on the terrace, and the larger Honeymoon, Paramount and Presidential suites run from 1,281 to 3,519 sq ft. Days fill with snorkeling, paddleboarding, yoga and wellness classes, cooking and mixology classes, electric bikes and cruisers for exploring the island, and golf access at Puerto Cancun Golf Club; PURE Spa by Natura Bissé offers hydrotherapy, a hammam and a floatarium, with treatments beyond the included 20-minute session charged.
Impression is for couples who want a romantic, design-forward, adults-only all-inclusive with a boutique feel and are willing to pay for it. It competes most directly with Beloved Playa Mujeres and Excellence Playa Mujeres on the mainland and with Impression Moxché by Secrets in Playa del Carmen, now the only resort left under the Impression by Secrets name, and it wins on design and the island setting. Guests comparing it with standard Secrets resorts like Maroma or Akumal get more butler and less beach, and will feel the price gap. Off property, Isla Mujeres puts the MUSA underwater sculptures, Garrafon reef park and Playa Norte within an easy golf-cart ride, and whale shark tours run in season.
