Posadas took over the beachfront hotel on Sac Bajo on 1 April 2026 and is converting it into Devossion by Live Aqua Celebration Resort & Spa Isla Mujeres, the second property in its new adults-only, all-inclusive Devossion line after Playa del Carmen. The hotel is closed for the changeover, and the island's destination guide expects it to reopen under the new name in November 2026. Anyone who remembers Izla as a family-friendly boutique hotel with room-only and breakfast rates should reset expectations: Posadas describes a 122-room adults-only resort with dining, drinks and activities included.
The new set-up, as Posadas publishes it, centres on Carnivore (a steakhouse), The Door (a hidden speakeasy), a Lobby Bar and the poolside Wet Bar, with Feel Spa, a gym and yoga and mindful-movement sessions alongside. Rooms run from Premium Garden View and Premium Garden Terrace (one king or two queens, with private terraces) up to a limited run of Premium Plunge Ocean Front kings with private plunge pools and a Presidential Suite. The old chef-led restaurant that traveler forums used to rave about is gone from the line-up. Two things from the old hotel are worth checking in the first reviews after reopening: rooms that guests found damp, and a rooftop infinity pool that management sometimes closed to hotel guests for private bookings.
This is a couples and celebration-trip resort now, not a family one. The location matters: Sac Bajo is a narrow strip on the west side of the island, about 6 km from the ferry terminal, so downtown, Playa Norte, Garrafon and Punta Sur are taxi or golf-cart trips rather than walks. That quiet is the appeal for people who want Isla Mujeres without the day-trip crowds, and the main trade-off against an all-inclusive in Cancun or Costa Mujeres is fewer restaurants and an extra ferry leg. Whale shark tours (roughly June through September), MUSA's underwater sculptures and golf-cart loops of the island are all easy to book from here once it reopens.
