The Soco Hotel

The waterfront restaurant is the centerpiece, serving a la carte breakfast, lunch and dinner built on local produce, plus afternoon tea with pastries by the pool every day. Travelers describe the food as better than most all-inclusives in Barbados, though one menu can start to repeat over a long stay, and dinner has an elegantly casual dress code. There is one bar, best known for the rum tasting run by the bar team, and room service during limited hours. The hotel sits right on the water with beach loungers and towels, and guests swim in the sheltered water behind the reef. Rooms come in two categories, the SoCo Room and the larger SoCo Deluxe with its own seaside balcony. The trade-off for boutique scale is a thin amenity list: one pool, no gym, and massages by reservation rather than a full spa. Budget for the Barbados accommodation tax and tourism fee too, listed at about US$19 per room per night combined and paid at the hotel on top of the all-inclusive rate.

The Soco suits couples and solo adults who want something smaller and more personal than the big chains and are happy to explore Barbados on their own. If you want a packed activity schedule or several restaurants on site, a larger St. Lawrence Gap or west coast resort will suit you better. Along the boardwalk you can walk to Rockley Beach, and Bridgetown, Carlisle Bay and the Friday-night Oistins Fish Fry are all short drives away. On price it competes favorably with mid-tier all-inclusives on the island given the location and the food.
