What to know before you book

• •Clear: the leeward west (Platinum) coast — Mullins, Holetown, Paynes Bay, Sandy Lane, Batts Rock. Sheltered from Atlantic currents, it rarely sees an influx; Mullins was rated 'low to managed' with daily morning cleanups through the April 2026 peak build-up.
• •Affected: the south coast — Oistins, Enterprise (Miami) Beach, Worthing, Dover, St Lawrence Gap. This is a major resort zone and it does get hit; Barbados Today reported Enterprise Beach 'engulfed' and near-empty on 10 August 2026.
• •Worst: the Atlantic east and southeast coast — Bathsheba/Soup Bowl, Skeete's Bay, Consett Bay, River Bay, Bath Beach, and the Crane area. These are scenic and surf beaches, not usually swimming beaches.
• •Barbados' far-eastern position means it intercepts the Great Atlantic Sargassum Belt before the rest of the Lesser Antilles — it is materially worse than Aruba, Curaçao or St Lucia's west coast.
• •The National Conservation Commission runs daily beach cleanups, and the government has pledged offshore collection plus value-added uses (compost, biofuel, cosmetics); response on smaller south-coast beaches has been criticised locally as inconsistent.
