What to know before you book

  • •The communities that actually deal with influxes are on the east coast and in fishing villages - Grenville, Soubise, Telescope, Conference Bay and Woburn are the ones named by the regional Sargassum Information Hub. Fishers there bear most of the cost.
  • •The July 2025 Grand Anse event was traced to weak trade winds and shifting local currents. Observers found clumps 50 to 800 metres offshore and no large mats further out, which is why it washed in overnight and did not stay.
  • •The government set up a National Sargassum Taskforce in September 2025 and in 2026 contracted daily shoreline clean-ups in affected communities, along with offshore interception using trawl nets and booms. Grenada also committed to processing 10,000 tonnes of sargassum into products by 2026.
  • •If you are booked on the north coast in Saint Patrick parish, expect more exposure than on the south coast; the northern and eastern shores face the open Atlantic.
