Does Turks and Caicos Get Sargassum?

Turks and Caicos gets sargassum, but almost none of it reaches Grace Bay, where nearly every resort on Providenciales sits. Grace Bay is shielded by a long offshore barrier reef and sits on the sheltered side of the island relative to the prevailing easterly trades, so it stayed clear even through the heavy 2026 season. The weed instead collects on the windward south and east shores - Long Bay, Cooper Jack, Five Cays, Blue Hills, and the outer islands of South Caicos, Grand Turk and eastern North Caicos - mostly from late summer into early fall.

What to know before you book
- •The official tourism board lists the reliably clear beaches as Grace Bay, Leeward, the Bight, Taylor Bay, Sapodilla Bay, Malcolm's Road, Half Moon Bay, Water Cay, Pine Cay and Fort George Cay.
- •The beaches that do accumulate are Long Bay (the kiteboarding beach on the south shore), Cooper Jack Bay, Five Cays and Blue Hills on Providenciales, plus windward South Caicos, Grand Turk, eastern North Caicos and the Ambergris Cays.
- •Turks and Caicos rarely sees the extraordinary piles that hit the Dominican Republic or the Lesser Antilles - the tourism board describes accumulations as usually just unsightly with some odour, with dangerous concentrations only in remote spots.
- •Timing here runs later than the eastern Caribbean: sargassum starts appearing in late spring and is most apparent in late summer and early fall, so September and October matter more than they do in Punta Cana.
- •Resorts clean with lightweight tractors pulling beach-rake implements, with hand raking after storms; there are no offshore barriers because they have not been needed on the Grace Bay side.
