Does Aruba Get Sargassum?

Aruba gets very little sargassum on the beaches travelers actually use. The whole resort strip on the leeward west coast — Palm Beach, Eagle Beach, Manchebo, Druif and Arashi — sits on the sheltered Caribbean side of the island and stays essentially clear, even through the record bloom years of 2025 and 2026. Seaweed does pile up on the windward east coast at Boca Grandi, Boca Prins and Wariruri, but those are undeveloped high-surf beaches with dangerous currents that nobody swims at anyway. The Sargassum Information Hub rates Aruba the least affected of the three ABC islands, with a serious influx only about once a year on average.

What to know before you book
- •Clear: Palm Beach, Eagle Beach, Manchebo, Druif, Arashi and Baby Beach — the leeward west and southwest coast, where every major resort sits. Worst case in peak season is a thin line of weed at the tide mark that crews rake off in the morning.
- •Affected: the windward east coast — Boca Grandi, Boca Prins and Wariruri Bay. These are rough, undeveloped surf beaches, so sargassum there rarely touches a normal itinerary.
- •Aruba sits far south and west of the main Great Atlantic Sargassum Belt track, off the Venezuelan coast, and Bonaire absorbs much of the influx heading for the ABC chain.
- •Cleanup is concentrated on the leeward tourist beaches by the public works department together with the hotel association; crews coordinate with the TurtugAruba conservation group before clearing turtle-nesting stretches.
- •2026 was a near-record Caribbean-wide season — USF measured record-high June sargassum in the Caribbean Sea — and Aruba's west-coast beaches still reported only low, intermittent weed.
