• •Seven Mile Beach is the reason Cayman rates so much better than its neighbours: it faces west, away from the easterly trades, and only accumulates seaweed in the unusual case of a sustained westerly wind. That held even through 2026, the second-biggest sargassum year on record.
• •East End and South Sound take the hit first and hardest. In summer 2026 the Cayman Compass reported South Sound's public boat ramp so clogged that launching was difficult, and Morritt's Resort in East End said staff had been clearing seaweed almost continuously for two months.
• •Cayman has no offshore barriers and, as of 2026, still no national sargassum removal plan - clearing is left to individual hotels and property owners, so how clean a given east-coast beach looks depends on who owns it.
• •Because it is wind-driven rather than tide-driven, the picture flips within a day or two: two Grand Cayman beaches a few miles apart can look completely different on the same morning.
• •Sister islands Cayman Brac and Little Cayman follow the same rule - south and east shores collect, the north and west sides stay clearer.
