•Day trips to Saona and Catalina islands leave from Bayahibe and La Romana; these are among the most popular excursions in the country and are not generally reported as sargassum-affected.
•Reporting is not unanimous: the hotel association described the destination as unaffected in May 2026, while a September 2026 editorial named Bayahibe among eastern beaches with sargassum. Treat it as low-risk, not zero-risk, for June to August.
