Sargassum in St. Lucia by month

What to know before you book

• •Clear: the leeward northwest and west coast — Reduit Beach and Rodney Bay, Gros Islet, Marigot Bay, Anse Chastanet and Sugar Beach. This is where nearly all resorts are, and travelers consistently report sargassum is rarely an issue there.
• •Affected: the windward east and south coast — Dennery, Micoud, Praslin, Savannes Bay, Sandy Beach, L'Anse Capitaine and Vieux Fort. In June 2026 sargassum choked the Micoud North jetty badly enough to threaten fishers' access.
• •Exception worth flagging: in the record 2025 season, weed reached the north and west coasts for the first time, affecting Castries, Choiseul and Soufrière. Soufrière Bay was hit hard while nearby Anse Chastanet, around the headland, stayed clear.
• •The 2025 season ran roughly April to October and had cleared by that October — a useful guide to the shape of a bad year here.
• •Saint Lucia uses the CERMES sub-regional outlook bulletin for preparedness, received about US$2 million in removal equipment from Japan in 2022, and processes collected sargassum into organic fertilizer.
