- +The casino is the real thing rather than a token row of slots, with 45,000 square feet of gaming space, over 400 slot and video poker machines, more than 37 live table games and a dedicated poker room running nightly from 6pm to 4am (18 and over)
- +Nine restaurants and 23 bars sit inside the all-inclusive, and most take walk-ins: The Market food hall, Isla Gastro Market with eight stations, Ciao and Ciao Trattoria for Italian, Los Gallos for Mexican, Bistro Med, Stacked for smash burgers, The Split for sandwiches, plus Toro for steak and Zen for teppanyaki and sushi (those two need a reservation)

Common complaints
- −A lot of the headline entertainment is pay-to-play. As of October 2026 the official rate sheet lists bowling at $12 per person, Escapology escape rooms at $45 per person, laser tag from $20, the Forza racing simulator at $15 to $25 a run, and the FlowRider at $40 for a single session rising to $750 for unlimited access. Mini golf, the arcade and the VR room are also priced at the Vacation Planner desk
- −Three of the best-looking dining rooms are outside the all-inclusive entirely. Montserrat Manor (prime Chicago beef and live lobster) and Youyu charge for all food and drink, and the Awaken Your Senses tasting experience is $150 per person
- −Oro Nightclub is also excluded: admission carries a fee, all food and drink inside is charged, and it only opens Wednesday to Saturday from 11pm to 4am. Ladies get free cover on those nights, drinks still cost
- −Golf is not part of the all-inclusive. Green fees run $300, twilight $180, club rental $75, and the resort's own FAQ notes caddies are mandatory for golfers and not covered
- −Timeshare and vacation-club selling starts at check-in, usually dressed up as a VIP breakfast or a resort tour. The property trades under a vacation-ownership operator, and two of the nicest pools (Isla and Sun) are reserved for member tiers rather than ordinary guests

The Verdict
Punta Cana is Hard Rock at maximum scale: 13 pools, a full casino, Jack Nicklaus golf, and a campus so large it skews toward families and big group trips. Cancún is the tighter, punchier version — a better beach with real Caribbean blue, a walkable footprint, easier flights from most of the US, and a scene that skews bachelor/bachelorette weekend. Golf-casino-group trips point to Punta Cana; beach-first party weekends point to Cancún.
