- −You cannot swim in the ocean here. The resort's own warning is blunt: strong currents could put even the most experienced swimmers in danger, it is not safe for guests to swim, and they recommend keeping your distance from the shore. The pools are the water experience.
- −The water slides have a 43 inch (1.10 m) height minimum and children under 8 are not allowed on them at all, which shuts the youngest kids out of the attraction families book this place for. One adult may supervise no more than two children.

The ocean decides it for most families: Hyatt Ziva fronts one of the area's few swimmable stretches and sits minutes from the airport, and its food is generally rated better. Hard Rock's Pacific beach is dramatic but unswimmable — you're living at the pools — in exchange for a livelier scene and proximity to Cabo San Lucas nightlife and marina activities. Families with younger kids or ocean swimmers go Ziva; groups who want energy, music, and easy access to downtown Cabo go Hard Rock.
