Hotel Riu Cancun vs Hotel Riu Latino

Groups in their twenties and thirties shopping the cheapest adults-only Riu near Cancun land on these two, which run the same Pacha nightclub at about the same price. Riu Cancun is the 2003 high-rise in the Hotel Zone; Riu Latino is the 2022 resort on the quieter Costa Mujeres beach, half an hour north.

What Real Travelers Say

Distilled from real traveler discussions and reviews for each resort.

Hotel Riu Cancun

What travelers love

  • +Exchange Privileges let you use the facilities at three sister hotels, Riu Caribe, Riu Dunamar and Riu Ventura, which is a genuine perk at this price. Transfers are not included, so budget a taxi
  • +RIU Party is the real draw and it is properly included: free entry plus included transfers to the party zone at Riu Caribe several times a week, with White, Jungle and Neon theme nights, foam, confetti and pool parties, all adults only
  • +The Pacha nightclub is on site, open six nights a week, with entry and drinks included in the rate rather than sold as an extra
  • +Four outdoor pools, including a 290 sq m infinity pool with the Wet'n Drinking swim-up bar, plus an outdoor whirlpool with sea views, and free loungers, parasols and towels at both pool and beach
  • +The 24-hour all-inclusive is 24-hour in practice: round-the-clock snacks, an in-room minibar that gets restocked, in-room liquor dispensers, and no reservations needed at any restaurant

Common complaints

  • −Travelers consistently describe the beach strip as narrow by Cancun standards, with the loungers claimed early in the morning. Riu's own page calls it a vast beach, so set your expectations from guest photos rather than the brochure
  • −The buffet has one of the weaker food reputations among Cancun all-inclusives, and food quality is the complaint that comes up most often in traveler forums
  • −The party atmosphere is constant rather than optional. Couples looking for quiet, or anyone who wants an early night, are in the wrong building
  • −The most recent complete refurbishment Riu names on its own page was in 2014, on a hotel inaugurated in 2003, so rooms and public areas are more than a decade past their last overhaul and the budget finish shows
  • −Hotel Zone surroundings mean traffic and nightlife noise rather than a secluded resort feel, and there is no on-site hotel parking, so a rental car needs a plan. Reception arranges rentals and taxis instead

Hotel Riu Latino

What travelers love

  • +Pacha Nightclub is open six nights a week with free entry and unlimited drinks included — one of the best party scenes built directly into an all-inclusive resort in the Cancun area
  • +Five outdoor pools including a Splash Water World water park with waterslides give guests more aquatic variety than most competing properties in the Costa Mujeres corridor
  • +As a newer property (opened 2022), everything feels fresh and modern — decor, fixtures, and public areas all carry a contemporary feel that older Riu properties in Cancun simply cannot match
  • +The swim-up bars are consistently praised for attentive bartenders and strong, well-made cocktails served without the long waits common at larger resort pools
  • +The Renova Spa with relaxation pools and steam bath provides a genuine retreat option on property, letting guests switch between party energy and quiet recovery without leaving

Common complaints

  • −A la carte specialty restaurants draw frequent criticism for being glorified buffets in disguise — guests serve themselves with limited menu options and report feeling misled by the 'specialty' branding
  • −No room service available, which frustrates guests who want late-night food or breakfast delivered after a long night at Pacha
  • −The party atmosphere skews toward young adults and adult spring-break energy — guests looking for a romantic or quiet getaway find the vibe at the bars and nightclub overwhelming
  • −Beach shade is extremely limited — the row of palm trees fills up early and guests who arrive after 9am often spend the day in direct sun with no umbrella coverage
  • −Noise from late-night partiers returning to rooms between 2am and 5am is a documented complaint — guests in rooms near corridors report being woken up regularly

The Verdict

Location is the whole gap; the rest is the same formula down to Pacha, with food guests rate meh at both. Riu Cancun has a mall 20 meters away and included transfers to the RIU Party nights at Riu Caribe, so nights can leave the property. The cost is a building last overhauled in 2014, a narrow beach with rough surf, and a cramped Hotel Zone footprint. Latino is the reverse: 2022-fresh rooms, five pools with waterslides, a wide uncrowded beach with almost no shade, self-serve specialty restaurants, and Cancun half an hour off. Groups chasing Cancun's nightlife take Riu Cancun; groups who party and then want a real beach take Latino.

The beach and pool are where your day goes: wide, uncrowded sand, waterslides, a real spa, and rooms that still feel new, scarce shade aside.
