Hotel Riu Cancun fills one niche and fills it well: the cheap adults-only party hotel in the middle of the Cancun Hotel Zone. It is 18 and over throughout, 24-hour all-inclusive, and built around nightlife rather than around a spa week. The Pacha nightclub on site runs six nights a week with entry and drinks included, and RIU Party lays on themed White, Jungle and Neon events several times a week at the party zone at Riu Caribe with free entry and included transfers. Four outdoor pools, one of them a 290 sq m infinity pool with the Wet'n Drinking swim-up bar, an outdoor whirlpool with sea views, free loungers and towels, in-room liquor dispensers and a restocked minibar round it out. Exchange Privileges add the facilities at Riu Caribe, Riu Dunamar and Riu Ventura, the last of which opened in December 2025 beside Playa Delfines as Riu's sixth Cancun hotel. Note what is not in that list: neither Riu Palace in Cancun, and not Riu Latino. Riu's exchange access runs downward from the Palace tier, not upward into it.

Riu's own pages give conflicting restaurant counts, so judge it by the venue list rather than a number. Execution is the weak spot: the buffet has one of the softer food reputations in Cancun, and the beach draws steady complaints for being narrow and for loungers disappearing early, which the hotel's own description of a vast beach does not match. The building dates from 2003 and the last complete refurbishment Riu names is 2014, so this is a well-worn property with a loud, sociable atmosphere rather than a polished one. Wi-Fi is free throughout, including in the rooms.

This is the right call for groups in their twenties and thirties who want Cancun's nightlife on a budget and treat the hotel as somewhere to sleep, shower and start drinking. A mall is 20 m away, a bus stop 50 m away and the city centre about 10 km off, so eating and drinking off property is easy, which also happens to be the fix for the food complaints. Rates ran from about USD 104 per person per night on Riu's own site in October 2026, near USD 210 a night for two on the full plan. Spring break groups need to know the rules in advance: on request only, 21 and over, supervised, and no room parties. If you can stretch the budget, Riu Palace Las Americas next door is adults-only and better regarded, though it does not hand you the same exchange set, and Riu Palace Peninsula reopened in July 2026 after a full renovation. Riu's exchange access runs downward from the Palace tier rather than upward into it, so a stay here does not buy you Palace dining. Separately from the exchange scheme, transfers to the RIU Party events at Riu Caribe are included.

What is RIU Party, and is it included in the rate?

RIU Party is Riu's own themed event series and it is included. Guests at Hotel Riu Cancun get free entry plus included transfers to the party zone at Riu Caribe several times a week, for adults-only White Parties, Jungle Parties and Neon Parties with neon lighting, confetti, foam and pool parties. On-property nightlife is separate again: the Pacha nightclub is open six nights a week with entry and drinks included, and there is live music or a stage show every night of the week.

Can a spring break or student group book here?

Only on request, and the rules are strict. Riu accepts supervised groups at this hotel where every member is 21 or older, group bookings have to be arranged in advance rather than booked online, and room parties are not permitted. Individual guests only need to be 18. If your group includes anyone under 21, this is not a property to plan around, and a graduation trip for recent high school leavers will not be accepted.

How small is the beach really?

Travelers regularly call it narrow for Cancun and say the loungers go early in the day, which is the single most repeated complaint about this property. Riu describes the same stretch as a vast beach with powdery white sand, free loungers, parasols and towels, and a paid massage service on the sand. Guest photographs are the better guide here. If a wide beach is a priority, the Costa Mujeres resorts north of the Hotel Zone or the Riviera Maya to the south have considerably more room.

How does it compare with Riu Palace Las Americas next door?

Las Americas is also adults-only, is better regarded by guests, and usually costs a modest amount more. The important correction is that staying at Las Americas is not the same perk in reverse: a Riu Cancun booking does not let you use Las Americas, so if you want the Palace restaurants and pools you have to book the Palace. Riu Palace Peninsula, also in the Hotel Zone, reopened in July 2026 after a top-to-bottom renovation and is the freshest of the Cancun Palace properties as of October 2026.
