Garrafón Park day trip

Garrafón sits on the rocky southern tip of Isla Mujeres, where there is no sand beach, only a reef cove roped off for snorkelling. Around it the park adds kayaks, a zip line that runs out over the sea, a pool on the cliff, hammocks, a Maya temazcal steam bath and a walk to Punta Sur. Dolphin swims cost extra.

Packages from Cancún include the boat from Playa Langosta in the hotel zone (about half an hour), a buffet and drinks; the dock tax is paid separately. Regular sunscreen is not allowed in the water. The reef inside the buoys was badly damaged by storms and careless snorkellers and has been recovering since the park was rebuilt, and the cove gets crowded at midday when the tour boats are in. The park closes on Mondays.
