Costão do Santinho rock carvings

On the rocky headland at the south end of Praia do Santinho, on the Morro das Aranhas, figures cut into the boulders by the sambaqui people more than 5,000 years ago make up an open-air museum. A paved trail climbs to them, signs explain how the carvings were made, a roof shades the rock faces and a guard is on site. Entry is free, and the climb pays off with a wide view over the beach.
