Glass-bottom boat to Isla La Roqueta
Day trip · Acapulco, Mexico

La Roqueta is the wooded island that shelters Caleta and Caletilla beaches, and the crossing has sights of its own. The glass-bottom boats pass over the submerged statue of the Virgin (the Virgen de los Mares), and on the harbour tours a diver goes over the side with food so fish swarm under the glass.
There are two ways to do it. The cheap one is a water taxi or glass-bottom boat from Caleta Beach, then a day on the island's shallow beach, which suits small children, with trails through the forest up to a lighthouse and some snorkelling off the rocks. Some packaged tours leave from the Paseo del Pescador and take about four and a half hours, bundling a Spanish-speaking guide, lunch, an open bar, kayaks and snorkel gear and a beach club on the island. Raccoons and macaws turn up along the forest trails, and on weekends there are fire and deer dances.
