The buildings, the gardens and the main pool sit on the inland side of the coast road; the private beach cove and the two oceanfront infinity pools sit on the water side, and you cross between them through an underground tunnel. Once you know that, the location is genuinely strong: 15 minutes from the island airport, 5 minutes from the Playa del Carmen ferry dock, the Royal Village shopping center next door, and a view of up to nine cruise ships a day coming into the terminal, which the Cruceros pool bar is built around.

The 2025 phase covered the Chac Mool bar, an Amazon-themed lobby bar, a redesign of the Bikini snack bar and the motor lobby; the 2026 phase was supposed to add an Oriental restaurant and an Ekinox rooftop bar and terrace of the kind the chain already runs at its Cancun property, plus refits of the rooms, gym and spa. As of October 2026 the resort's own site lists neither new venue, and a guest in late June 2026 found the main pool closed for work with no advance notice, so ask what will be shut during your dates. The resort suits divers who want the dive desk and the airport proximity, families who want a kids' pool and a 70-square-meter suite, and anyone who prefers Cozumel's slower pace to the Cancun hotel zone. It is the wrong pick for travelers who want to step from their room onto a wide beach, and a local sanitation fee is collected at check-in on top of the all-inclusive rate.

Is there a good beach at Grand Park Royal Cozumel?

There is a small private sand cove directly in front of the resort, with a bar, palapas and loungers, but it is on the opposite side of the coast road from the buildings and you reach it through a well disguised underground tunnel. The sand is real and the water is clear; the issue is size, because it is a modest cove serving 342 rooms. If you want a long walk-out beach, mainland Riviera Maya resorts do that better, and nothing about Cozumel's west coast changes that.

How good is the snorkeling right off the resort?

Modest. Cozumel's reefs are world class, but the bottom directly off this beach is mostly sand and sea grass, as the island's own dive operators describe it, and Cozumel does not really have house reefs. Shore snorkeling is included and worth a look on calm days, but to see the coral, turtles and eagle rays you book a boat trip through the on-site dive shop or a tour desk.

Is diving included in the all-inclusive package?

No. Tanks, guides, boat trips and rental gear are all extra, and dive packages are quoted separately from the room rate. How do you get there, and is there a shuttle?

Cozumel has its own international airport about 15 minutes away, and the ferry dock for Playa del Carmen is roughly 5 minutes away, so if you can fly into Cozumel the transfer is short. Most North American itineraries instead land at Cancun, then take a road transfer to Playa del Carmen and the Ultramar or Winjet ferry across. The resort runs no scheduled airport shuttle and taxis are taken from outside the terminal, but book five nights or more direct with Park Royal and round-trip transfers are included.

Is this a timeshare resort, and will I be pitched?

Yes, it operates as an active timeshare property alongside the all-inclusive hotel, and guests report being invited to a presentation during the stay. A polite no is enough and it does not affect how you are treated, but it is worth knowing before check-in so the invitation is not a surprise.
