Ferry to Playa del Carmen

Two fast-ferry lines, Ultramar and Winjet, cross from San Miguel's waterfront to Playa del Carmen, with a sailing roughly every hour between them. Winjet's boats leave Cozumel from 7:00 until 21:00, mostly on the hour, and come back from Playa an hour later each time.

Tickets on one line are no good on the other, so buy one way rather than a return and take whichever boat leaves first on the way back. Ultramar sells an open ticket valid for six months on the same route, and its Cozumel boats have a first-class deck when space allows. A rental car cannot go across. The separate car ferry runs from Calica, south of Playa, a few times a day and is slow at both ends.
