Cenote Chaak Tun

Chaak Tun is the cave cenote inside Playa del Carmen itself, out at the inland end of Avenida Juárez, so a taxi gets you there without a tour. Visits are guided only, leaving about every half hour through the day, and the guide takes small groups through two chambers joined by low passages.

You walk and swim, in water that stays around 24 to 26 degrees, with fish below and bats overhead. Gear is lent, and the visit takes up to two hours. Cameras are allowed, unlike at Río Secreto, though the light underground is poor and most people end up buying the photos taken there.
