Sunset cruise
Day trip · Turks and Caicos
Most evening boats stay close to home, cruising Leeward Beach and the east end of Grace Bay: past Little Water Cay, along the barrier reef, and back along the Grace Bay hotels. Bottlenose dolphins that live off northeast Provo often ride the wake, and on a flat horizon there is a chance of the green flash.
The trip is two to three hours, shared or private, and many boats pick up straight from Grace Bay Beach. Rum punch, Turk's Head beer and soft drinks are the usual pour, sometimes bottomless, with chips and dip on the shared boats and conch salad or cheese platters on the pricier private ones. A big sailboat or wide catamaran is the steadier, quieter choice for a first time; a powerboat can get farther from the crowd. A few nights after each full moon, some sunset trips stay out for the glowworms. Weather cancellations happen, and the shared scheduled sails have the most room for last-minute bookings.
