Cenote Angelita
Cenote · Tulum, Mexico

This one is for divers, and experienced ones. Angelita drops almost straight down through jungle to about 60 metres, and around the middle of the dive you reach a thick white layer where the fresh water above meets salt water below. Hydrogen sulfide makes it look like cloud, and fallen trees and branches stick up out of it, so the dive feels like floating over a drowned forest.
Advanced Open Water or equivalent is the usual starting point, along with recent dives and good buoyancy; newly certified divers get pointed to an easier cenote. Snorkellers see little, because everything worth seeing is deep. Facilities are basic jungle-site ones. Most divers come on a guided trip from Tulum or Playa del Carmen and pair Angelita with a second, shallower cenote.
