Decameron Marazul (shown on Decameron's own site as Decameron Marazul, A Ramada All Inclusive) sits on San Andrés Island, Colombia's Caribbean outpost that Colombians have long treated as a treasure and few international travelers discover. The hotel is on the San Luis road near Orange Hill, about 15 minutes from the airport, surrounded by mangrove forest with Cayo Acuario and Haynes Cay almost directly offshore. The resort is aging and imperfect, but the water around it is spectacular, and the dive agency on site plus the short boat ride to Acuario, where rays glide through shallow turquoise water, are the trip highlights for most guests.
The practical experience is basic Decameron. There are 128 rooms, one pool shared by adults and kids, a buffet at La Terraza, à la carte dinners at Caravelle, a pool snack bar and grill at Rodeo, and four bars including the beachfront Coco Blue and the Show Bar. The hotel's own beach is small and mangrove-fringed and guests say it is not suitable for swimming, which is the single most important thing to know before booking; Rocky Cay Beach Club, about five minutes away by car and included in the inter-hotel privileges, is where you actually swim. Recent guest reviews keep returning to the same complaints: dated rooms, inconsistent maintenance, cleanliness lapses and food that does not live up to the price. Decameron announced a remodel of the entrance, lobby, show area and selected rooms in April 2025, but there is no sign yet that the room work is finished, so do not count on a refreshed room.
Marazul makes sense for travelers who have chosen San Andrés as the destination and want an all-inclusive base with easy water access rather than the resort itself as the attraction. Divers and snorkelers get the most out of it, and the access to Rocky Cay and the sister Decameron hotels on the island widens the options considerably. It sits in the mid-range for the island, and guests comparing it with newer San Andrés properties notice the age gap. Plan on taxis to the North End for seafood, shopping and the Raizal culture of the island.
Pros
- +On-site scuba diving agency with an introductory mini scuba course in the pool, so first-timers can try diving before committing to a reef trip
- +Cayo Acuario and Haynes Cay sit almost directly offshore, and the boat run out to Acuario puts you in shallow, clear water with rays and reef fish around your legs
- +Inter-hotel privileges include the Rocky Cay Beach Club, about five minutes away by car, plus the Maryland, San Luis, Aquarium and Los Delfines Decameron hotels, which fixes the swimming problem at the hotel's own waterfront
- +Non-motorized water sports are included: kayaks, paddleboards and water bikes from the nautical area by the beach
- +Daily activity program with aerobics, dance classes, games and a live trio, then evening entertainment at the Show Bar, the classic lively Decameron formula
- +Small enough at 128 rooms (118 standard, 8 junior suites, 2 presidential suites) that it never feels like a mega-resort
- +Mangrove-fringed grounds with wide green areas on the San Luis side of the island, quieter than the hotels packed into the North End downtown
- +Gym with cardio and strength machines, a tennis court and beach volleyball for guests who want more than the pool
Cons
- −The hotel's own small beach is set among mangroves and is not really usable for swimming, so for a proper swim you will be riding over to Rocky Cay or taking a boat to the cays
- −Rooms are dated and maintenance is the most repeated complaint in recent guest reviews: tired fixtures, struggling air conditioning and general wear
- −Cleanliness comes up again and again in 2026 guest reviews, beyond normal island wear and tear
- −Food draws mixed reviews: the buffet is serviceable but variety is limited and many guests feel it does not match what they paid
- −Service can feel disorganized at check-in, activity sign-ups and dinner reservations, with long waits at busy times
- −Not walking distance to downtown: the hotel is on the San Luis road near Orange Hill, so the North End shops and seafood spots mean a taxi each way
- −Only one pool for adults and children together, and no spa on site
