Platinum Yucatan Princess sits in the mid-tier of the Riviera Maya adults-only market. It is not Excellence- or Secrets-level luxury, but it is a well-run, 472-room, 18+ resort that delivers the basics reliably, and guests generally rate it highly. Its biggest structural advantage is the Princess complex around it. Platinum guests can use Grand Sunset Princess and Grand Riviera Princess next door, including their pools and the Clubhouse, though not their Platinum or Chill Out areas, and guests from those family resorts cannot come the other way. Both neighbours have just been rebuilt (Grand Sunset reopened on 1 November 2025, Grand Riviera in May 2026), so the facilities you borrow are new. Swimout rooms, with steps from the terrace into the pool, are the category people most often say was worth paying for.

- −Rooms are comfortable but dated. Unlike Grand Sunset and Grand Riviera next door, Platinum Yucatán was not part of the 2025-2026 renovation work, so the contrast is easy to see when you walk over
- −Skylights, the Mediterranean restaurant with views toward Cozumel, is not in the all-inclusive plan and is listed as temporarily closed as of October 2026. Don't plan an anniversary dinner around it
- −Kotatsu reservations are confusing: the restaurants page says an advance booking is required, but its own listing says one isn't. Book at the concierge on day one to be safe
- −Spa treatments, the hydrothermal circuit, laundry, motorised water sports and the ChillOut Beach Club restaurant all cost extra
- −Entertainment is resort-style rather than nightlife: the Club La Salsa disco runs 10pm to 1am, but anyone after a real bar scene has to taxi into Playa del Carmen
The all-inclusive plan is generous on paper. It covers premium drinks at eight bars, 24-hour room service, a minibar restocked daily, free Wi-Fi throughout, and a 24-hour buffet alongside Rodeo Grill, Bruschetta, Aroma and Kotatsu. Only Kotatsu may need a booking. Skylights is the exception: it is not in the plan at all and is listed as temporarily closed as of October 2026. The Clubhouse Sports Park is the unusual part, with archery, supervised rifle and pistol shooting, a driving range, a batting cage and paddle boarding on a lagoon, all included. The weak spots are the rooms and the beach. Platinum Yucatán sat out the complex's 2025-2026 renovations, so its rooms look their age next to the neighbours. Sargassum lands heavily in bad seasons, when guests report a covered beach and a strong smell, and the pools become the main event.
The resort works best for couples and groups of adult friends who want a social all-inclusive with plenty to do, the run of a three-resort complex, and a price below the luxury adults-only tier, and who will accept the beach trade-off. It competes with properties like Iberostar Waves. Guests who can stretch to Excellence Playa Mujeres or Zoetry get a noticeably better beach and rooms. Playa del Carmen's Fifth Avenue is a taxi ride away for nightlife. Expect Solidaridad's environmental sanitation charge at check-in, billed per guest per night. The resort's own FAQ puts it at under 60 pesos a night for a couple.
