Bonefishing trip
Day trip · The Bahamas, Bahamas
The flats around Great and Little Exuma are shallow, sandy and very wide, and this is where Exuma's bonefish feed. Guides work out of George Town and Barraterre, poling skiffs across the banks while you watch for the grey shapes of bonefish moving up with the tide. They are famously spooky, and most of the skill is in a quiet approach and a soft cast. Fly and light spinning tackle are both used, and the fish go back.
Moriah Harbour Cay National Park, across the harbour from George Town, lists bonefishing among the activities it allows. Anyone fishing in the Bahamas needs a recreational fishing permit before going out, so ask your guide whether it is arranged.
