East of Great Exuma lies Exuma Sound, deep open water where boats troll for mahi-mahi, wahoo and yellowfin tuna. The shallow flats around Great and Little Exuma are a different fishery, left to the bonefish guides who work out of George Town and Barraterre.

Everyone fishing needs a Bahamas recreational fishing permit before going out. Free-diving spearfishing is allowed with a permit; spearfishing with scuba gear is banned throughout the Bahamas.
