Catamaran day trip to Soufrière and the Pitons

Day trip · St. Lucia, Saint Lucia

A full day down the west coast, roughly seven hours. The big catamarans board at Rodney Bay Marina in the morning (some stop to collect people in Castries and Marigot Bay) and sail south past Marigot Bay, with the Pitons growing ahead, to Soufrière.

The Soufrière part is the difference between this and a plain sail. Most trips put you ashore there for the Sulphur Springs, the drive-in volcano, where you either walk the guided route or sit in the volcanic mud bath, and some add a waterfall such as Toraille and lunch on a cocoa estate like Morne Coubaril. Others keep lunch on board. On the way back there is a swim and snorkel stop in one of the protected bays, often below Petit Piton or off Anse Chastanet, with gear handed out on board. The bar opens properly for the run home, and on some boats the crew put the music up and teach a few Saint Lucian dance steps.

Lunch, drinks, snorkel gear and the transfer to the marina are normally in the price, and children are welcome.
