Club Med Cancun is the urban sibling of Club Med Punta Cana, trading the DR's remote beach setting for a prime spot in Cancun's hotel zone. The unique selling point beyond the Club Med program is the location - a triangular peninsula with calm water on one side and surf on the other, plus walkable access to Cancun's restaurant and nightlife scene. The Jade section remains genuinely impressive with modern rooms and amenities that rival boutique hotels, and a major 2-year renovation program is remaking the rest of the property: new facilities are unveiled August 29, 2026, with redesigned Deluxe and Superior rooms following in waves from fall 2026 into 2027. The core Club Med experience is the same as Punta Cana: G.O. entertainment staff, legendary kids' programs, trapeze school, included water sports, and communal dining. The food follows the French buffet tradition - elaborate spreads with good variety but not the à la carte restaurant experience that modern AI travelers expect. Credit where due on the renovation logistics: all restaurants have stayed open through the works, including Taco Arte and the Aguamarina Snack, and the Kids Club never closed. A new Mayan-themed Kid's Club is opening fall 2026. The Cancun location adds the advantage of being able to walk to the hotel zone's restaurants and bars, which gives you an escape valve that the more remote Punta Cana doesn't offer.
