Cenote Chac Mool

Divers come to Chac Mool for the light. On a bright day sun shafts drop through the openings and cut through the water like lasers, and the best known of its two entrances, Kukulkan, has them at their sharpest. Below about nine metres the fresh water meets salt water in a halocline, a shimmering layer that makes the view blur as if you were diving through oil.

The dive is a cavern dive to around 13 metres at most, open to certified recreational divers with a guide, at most four divers to each guide. The shorter Little Brother route is the second option. It is a few minutes' drive south of Puerto Aventuras, and divers usually come with a dive shop from Puerto Aventuras or Playa del Carmen.
