Shark dive

Day trip · The Bahamas, Bahamas

Shark Junction, off Grand Bahama, is one of the oldest organised shark encounters anywhere. Divers kneel on the sandy bottom while Caribbean reef sharks come in out of the blue, circle closer, peel off and come back from another direction. It is a scuba dive, so you need to be a diver.

The island's oldest dive centre, at Port Lucaya, ran shark dives here for decades but has put them on hold while it moves its diving to Sanctuary Bay. At least one shop in Freeport still lists the dive, so confirm a boat is going before you book flights for it.
