Wall dive and snorkel trip

The diving here comes from geography: San Salvador rises alone from the deep on its own small platform. A narrow shelf, 25 to 40 metres deep at its outer edge and in places only 400 metres from shore, ends at a wall that drops almost straight down to around 4,000 metres. The sheltered west coast, facing the rest of the Bahamas, has the calmer water and the better visibility.

The dive boats go out from the Club Med Columbus Isle dive centre, and scuba is charged on top of the all-inclusive rate. Snorkellers stay on the fringing and patch reefs inside the shelf, where the water runs from about 23 to 29 °C through the year. A doctor trained in diving medicine is based at the resort.
