Secrets The Vine is the Secrets property that trades tropical gardens for a tower. It opened in 2012 as a design-forward 497-room high-rise at Km 14.5 in the Cancun Hotel Zone, adults only at 18 and up, and it is built around wine in a way that is unusually sincere for an all-inclusive: a lobby wall holding up to 3,000 varieties, an Enoteca cellar where the resident sommelier runs tastings and will hold your bottle between dinners, and pairings written into the menus rather than bolted on. Every suite faces the ocean through floor-to-ceiling glass. The flip side of the design is that there is very little greenery and no sprawl, which is exactly what some travellers want and exactly what others will miss.

- +The wine programme is real rather than decorative. A wine wall in the lobby holds up to 3,000 varieties, an on-site Enoteca cellar hosts sommelier-led tastings, the resident sommelier will keep your opened bottle between dinner visits, and the menus are built around pairings. Nebbiolo, the Italian restaurant, is named for the grape behind Barolo and Barbaresco.
- +Bluewater Grill is the reason to book. Guests and travel agents compare the steaks to standalone steakhouses rather than to other all-inclusives. It is dinner only and takes no reservation, but it fills, so arrive early or late.
- +All 497 suites face the ocean, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a private furnished balcony. The entry-level Deluxe is 475 sq ft, which is not a compromise, and room service runs 24 hours ordered from an in-room tablet.

- −The rooftop pool is a Preferred Club amenity, not a general one, which the resort's marketing photos do not make obvious. Everyone else uses the three infinity pools on the lower levels. If the rooftop is the image you booked for, you have to book Preferred Club to get it, and its ladder entry is not step-free.
- −Pool chairs are the single most repeated complaint. Guests start claiming loungers at sunrise and most are gone by 10am. The Preferred Club rooftop is dramatically less crowded, which is the other reason people upgrade.
- −The spa vouchers are a trap worth knowing about. The roughly $400 handed to you at check-in look like credit and are percentage discounts off full-price treatments, so a $250 massage with a $100 voucher still costs you $150. Separately, the hydrotherapy facilities (sauna, cold plunge and hot plunge) are reserved for Preferred Club guests by appointment, not open to everyone.
- −The beach is narrow by Hotel Zone standards, noticeably tighter than Hyatt Zilara in Zone 9 or the Playa Mujeres resorts, and red flags with rough surf are common even in high season. Beach access means signing in with security.

- −Sea Salt Grill is the weak link, repeatedly ranked last by guests and travel agents. It is fine for a casual poolside lunch and skippable at dinner when Bluewater Grill and Nebbiolo are open.

Food is the strongest thing here after the wine. Eight restaurants take no reservations and issue no wristbands, Bluewater Grill turns out steaks guests compare to standalone steakhouses, Nebbiolo is the wine lover's room and the second-best meal on the property, and Dragons and Olio give you a credible rotation for a week. Sea Salt Grill is the one to skip at dinner. House pours are available at every restaurant and bar while premium bottles are charged, and a serious Pinot Noir can run around $300, so set expectations before you open the list. The pool picture is where expectations go wrong most often: three infinity pools on the lower levels serve all guests with drink service and a hot tub, there is no swim-up bar, chairs are claimed by 10am, and the rooftop pool everyone has seen photographs of belongs to Preferred Club. Rooms have no in-room whirlpool tubs, unlike Hyatt Zilara nearby or Secrets Akumal.
This is the resort for couples who care more about dinner, wine and location than about beach width. If a wide swimmable shoreline is the priority, Excellence Playa Mujeres about 25 minutes north and Hyatt Zilara in Zone 9 both beat it outright; if you want tropical grounds and quiet pools, Akumal or Moxche in the Riviera Maya are the better calls. What The Vine wins on is the shortest airport transfer of the group at about 20 minutes, a walk-up dining system with no friction at all, and a Hotel Zone address that puts shops, restaurants and nightlife a bus or taxi ride away instead of an excursion. Budget for the extras that are not obvious: spa treatments and hydrotherapy, premium wine, and the Quintana Roo environmental tax of roughly $2 to $9 per person per night that has been collected at check-in since February 1, 2026.
