Grand Park Royal Cancun is a 345-room beachfront all-inclusive sitting at Blvd. Kukulcán km 10.5, right in the middle of the Hotel Zone with the Nichupté lagoon behind it. Is this resort really becoming a Rixos, and is it safe to book?

The conversion is announced but the timeline has already slipped once. Trade coverage in May 2025 named Grand Park Royal Cancun as one of three Park Royal hotels being rebranded to Rixos, alongside Cozumel and Puerto Vallarta, and talked about late 2025 into early 2026. Ennismore's own 2026 openings page now puts Rixos Cancún at late 2026, with 345 rooms, which matches this property exactly. Park Royal, meanwhile, is advertising stays here through November 2026 on one promotion and into June 2027 on another, with no closure notice anywhere on the hotel page. Nobody has published a closing date. Get your dates confirmed in writing from the hotel, book with a cancellable rate if you can, and do not assume the resort you researched is the one that will be standing.

What is the VIP orientation and should I accept it?

It is a timeshare-style sales presentation offered at check-in, usually framed as a property tour, a welcome briefing or a complimentary breakfast. Decline it. Staff tend to describe it as fifteen or twenty minutes and guests who sit down report an hour and a half or more of pressure. Sargassum arrives on this side of the peninsula from roughly April through August, heaviest in May through July, and how much lands on any given morning varies by the week rather than the season. Hotel Zone crews clear it, but a spring or early-summer trip should budget for some mornings of raked seaweed.
