The Club at Hacienda del Mar, which the resort's own site now calls The Club Hacienda del Mar, is an all-inclusive in the Cabo del Sol community at KM 10.5 of the Los Cabos Tourist Corridor, overlooking the Sea of Cortez about 10 km from downtown Cabo San Lucas. It pairs dramatic sea views with colonial-style hacienda architecture, and it appeals to travelers who find the mega-resort experience overwhelming. The resort sits steps from the Cabo del Sol golf course, and the Arch, Medano Beach and the marina are a short drive away.
The on-site setup is more complete than the hacienda scale suggests. There are five pools with bar service and jacuzzis, Cactus Spa with volcanic stone massages and temazcal rituals, a gym with steam room and sauna included on the all-inclusive plan, oceanfront yoga, a Kid's Club and a 24-hour guest lounge. Dining is split into tiers, with Pitahayas for contemporary Mexican by the sea, Tomates for the international buffet, Trattoria Pomodoro for handmade pasta, and Sirenas, the Palapa Snack Bar, the Delfines pool bar and a Sports Bar for casual meals and drinks. The resort promotes beach services with loungers and towels and water activities, but as along much of Los Cabos, surf and currents can be strong, so swim only where staff say it is safe. Entertainment is low-key, and you will need a car or taxi to get anywhere off property.
This resort is right for couples and families who want hacienda character and sea views over resort scale, golfers who want to stay steps from Cabo del Sol, and travelers who have done the large Los Cabos all-inclusives and want something calmer. The lobby car rental desk makes it easy to explore Cabo Pulmo's snorkeling, desert ATV tours or winter whale watching. First-timers who expect a guaranteed calm swimming beach should look at Medano Beach properties or stay near the protected Chileno and Santa Maria coves instead.
Pros
- +Sweeping Sea of Cortez views from the Cabo del Sol community on the Tourist Corridor, with scenery among the most dramatic of any Los Cabos resort
- +Five pools with distinct atmospheres and bar service overlooking the sea, plus jacuzzis, so there is always a quieter pool if one is busy
- +Authentic colonial hacienda architecture throughout, with fountains, palms and traditional music that feel far less generic than the international chain properties
- +A real range of dining for an all-inclusive: Pitahayas for contemporary Mexican by the sea, Tomates for the international buffet, Trattoria Pomodoro for handmade pasta, plus Sirenas, the Palapa Snack Bar, the Delfines pool bar and a Sports Bar
- +Steps from the Cabo del Sol golf course, with preferred access to the Marina Golf Course and other Corridor courses a short drive away
- +Cactus Spa is an oceanfront spa built around traditional Mexican healing, with volcanic stone massages and temazcal rituals, and the gym with steam room and sauna is complimentary on the all-inclusive plan
- +Families get a Kid's Club, and from roughly August to December guests can join sea turtle hatchling releases on the beach
- +Practical touches that save money: high-speed Wi-Fi in all areas, a 24-hour guest lounge, oceanfront yoga, and an on-site Ten Car Rental desk in the lobby with free mileage and full coverage
Cons
- −Like much of the Los Cabos coastline, the water here can have strong surf and currents, so check the flags and ask staff before swimming; many guests treat it as a pool-and-views stay
- −The hacienda layout is spread out, and the entertainment program is lighter than at big party-style all-inclusives, so evenings are relaxed rather than lively
- −Downtown Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo require a car or taxi; the resort is not walkable to town
- −The complex mixes club members and hotel guests under similar names, so listings, room descriptions and reviews are easy to confuse; confirm exactly which side and room type you are booking
- −The all-inclusive program gets mixed reviews on coverage, with some guests reporting restaurant reservation limits or beverage restrictions
- −Spa treatments, golf, and excursions such as whale watching and sport fishing all cost extra
